Wellness

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence. There are two main categories of wellness, mental and physical. This is critical to note, as the mental or emotional component is often overlooked, as focus heavily rests on such main staples as physical fitness and chronic disease risk factors. In order to achieve a state of wellness in our own lives or try to guide others to it, we must pay due diligence to each of the dimensions. We may not all be physically fit or free from disease; we can, however, strive for increased wellness by working with what we’ve been dealt.
I believe it is the daily small decisions that lead us toward wellness or farther away from it. From the book Slight Edge by Jeff Olson, "The right choices you make today, compounded over time, will take you higher and higher up the success curve of this real-time movie called "your life". The wrong choices you make today, compounded over time, will absolutely, positively and inevitably take you down and out. Either way, there will be dramatic results, just like in a movie. Unlike a movie, it will just take time before you see them."
This is what gets most of us, the time factor. We make a choice to eat the burger, fries, and soda. It tastes great now and no major consequences are noticed immediately; however, if we don’t burn those “extra” calories off, a few days from now, we may feel that our pants are tighter. Because consequences are not usually immediate, we justify bad decisions like that over and over until we realize we are far away from our goals. Those good decisions made daily also have consequences that are not immediate, which is why they are not always easy to stick with. It helps to have a support system and friends who are headed in the same direction of your wellness goals.
I believe this is why the team of wellness staff at Whitacre Wellness is so valuable, because we all specialize in helping you make good decisions daily in differing areas of your health that lead you toward wellness. As you have seen, there are doctors of chiropractic who specialize in wellness of your spine and nervous system, there is the massage therapist who specializes in the musculoskeletal system, and there is a rehab specialist who specializes in strengthening your musculoskeletal system and helping you with your weight loss goals. We all are also especially interested in proper nutrition and supplementation to fuel the body and give it the tools it needs to heal from the inside out. We are a team that wants to see you reach your wellness goals and will encourage and help you make the best decisions daily for your health. This is why we always talk about testimonies, because, we know if someone else can make a positive decision and stay on that path, so can we. Your story can make a difference for others. Please let us know about all the small decisions you are making toward wellness, that is what energizes the whole team at Whitacre Wellness.
