Weight Loss Advantages
Weight Loss Advantages Utilizing The Slight Edge:
Let me ask you a question, so that we can share some wisdom. The question is, would you rather have a million dollars given to you in an envelope, or would you rather have a penny given to you in an envelope with the promise that the amount in the envelope given to you would double daily?
Think about that. Most people would probably choose the million dollars, with thoughts of investing and increasing it to a larger amount. We might choose the million, because that sounds like a large sum and the penny does not sound like much at all. This thought process; however, would cause you to miss out on a massive amount of wealth and prosperity, because the penny has the power of compound interest over time. After 30 days the penny would actually already turned into 5 million dollars. Wow! I tell you this story because weight loss is similar to this penny story. The penny is a small amount and doubling this small amount daily doesn’t seem like it would have much of an effect. We can see, however, over time this doubling makes a huge difference. With weight loss it is not the big decisions, but the small decisions that affect our health and weight. These decisions are easy to make, but they are also easy not to make and that is why so often we get off track.
For instance, drinking water is a key to weight loss. This is an easy and inexpensive thing to do but also easy to not do. We have to form this good habit and over time, it will pay off. Just like the penny, we don’t see a huge result after just one day, but over time our decision will pay off. This concept, of little decisions adding up to a large result over time, is called the slight edge. There is actually an entire book about it, and I would highly recommend it, The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.
This concept can work for you and it can also work against you. Knowing this gives you an advantage in your weight loss journey. Why? This is because most people get very upset when the scale is not responding the way they want it to. For example, 4 days have gone by and you have made some great daily decisions that should positively affect your weight loss and now you are on that scale wanting to see the results of your efforts. If you don’t see much change, you are likely to get discouraged and go back to your old habits. People who understand the slight edge realize that it is those daily decisions over time that will eventually yield them the result they are after. They realize that 4 days may not be enough time, so they continue along and check their weight in a month. Lo and behold, the scale has moved down and their inches are down and their energy is up! They wouldn’t have gotten that result had they checked results too soon and given up on their small daily decisions to move them toward weight loss.
Let me share some success stories that will encourage you in your weight loss. A 26 year old lady started on January 1st with a plan to lose weight. She took the genetic test to see which diet was best for her genotype. For her body, she found out she should eat a more moderate amount of complex carbohydrates, which is called the carb reducer diet. She took the recommended supplements from Nutrilite to boost her weight loss. For her, this was the Slimmetry, Carb Blocker 2, Invisifiber, and Glucose Health. She did add in two workouts a week for 20 to 30 minutes and walking 3 miles twice a week. Her starting weight was 178.5 pounds and as of January 29th her weight was 164.5 pounds.
A 23 year old male started a weight loss plan on Christmas. His plan consisted of no exercise, as he works a vigorous schedule, has a new baby and a 3 year old. He consistently took the Nutrilite supplements to boost his results. He took the Carb Blocker 2, Slimmetry, and CLA 500. His diet consisted of lots of green veggies and fresh foods, no fast food and no fried foods. He has lost 25 pounds so far.
As you can see, the plan they implemented is not anything hard. They are decisions that are easy to do and easy not to do, but they have consistently stuck with their decisions and now they are seeing the results. The key is to do the activity of the decision made and don’t immediately check the results. Do the activity daily that you know is a good decision and give yourself plenty of time before you check the results. I think it is always a good idea to have a mentor that can help you with the time frame, and can help keep you accountable. If you need a health coach, call us at Whitacre Wellness.
