Healthy Diet Tip: It’s All About Preparation

I know I have been thrown off my weight loss and health goals countless times because I was unprepared. I now know it is not wise to put off that preparation if I want to be successful, so let me give you some tips that have helped me and hopefully will help you also.

First, I make a decision that I am going to eat healthy. I know I am going to follow this decision up with some preparation and good decisions that will keep me on track toward my goals. I make sure I stock the refrigerator with healthy foods and don’t stock it with foods that are not on my grocery list. The point is, I don’t want to make the decision about what I will eat when I am feeling those hunger pangs and the roar of my tummy. To be prepared for the week, I prepare ahead foods that I can take on the go. Some of the easiest are hard boiled eggs, grilled or broiled chicken breast, cut up raw veggies, and the protein pancakes that are so yummy. That recipe is posted on the website. I also buy several bags of frozen stir fry vegetables and frozen fish, like wild caught salmon. I keep low fat organic milk in the refrigerator. We buy fresh lettuce for salads and fruit. I buy some fresh fruit, like grapefruit, apples, oranges, and strawberries. All these foods are easily prepared into small meals throughout the week.

I also make sure I have ordered and on hand the healthy things I need, such as the NUTRILITE® Twist Tubes to keep me drinking lots of water and their healthy 100 calorie bars. I also take the DOUBLE X® [Vitamins/ Minerals/ Phytonutrients] because it gives me great energy and it also gives me more nutrients and helps me to not eat as much. In addition, I take omega 3 fish oils and CLA. These supplements give me an advantage in my health and toward my weight loss goals.

Throughout the week we eat healthy meals, making sure we have protein and fiber at each one, and usually steamed veggies or a salad. One of my favorite quick salads is fresh spinach with fresh strawberries and a sweet viniagrette dressing. You can add chicken breast, cheese, mandarin oranges, and or almonds for extra punch.

There have been times that I thought I made a decision, but lost focus because I didn’t have any accountability or a real goal. Now, I tell someone who will support and help me with my goal. It is important to have a goal, so you can measure if you are making progress or not. I ask them to tell me if they see me heading off track, away from my goals.

A personal trainer is a good accountability partner. I like having a trainer at the beginning, because they will tell you the truth. In the past, I have texted my trainer and asked him if what I was about to eat was going to keep me on track toward my goal or take me off track. It is good to stay accountable.

With that said, I know I will make mistakes at times. No one is perfect, especially me. Re-evaluation and a chat with my trainer will get me back on the right track. Also, I would say, for me the weekends have been somewhat more challenging, because of eating out. Now that I know that, I plan ahead. We either eat before we go out with friends, or make a healthy choice at the restaurant, or we invite friends over to our home where we can control what food is available. These are all better options than realizing our weekend food choices caused us to lose all the progress we had made during the week.

So preparation is key! I hope these tips help you stay on top of your goals, so you can inspire others! Once you get the habit of eating to live and not living to eat, the choices of what to eat becomes easy!

Weight Loss Success: It Can Happen For You Too!

Those extra pounds have been there too long. Friends of Whitacre Wellness are kicking those pounds out for good! Several of our friends started weight loss challenges and are successfully losing inches, pounds, and fat. What they are gaining is self-confidence and strength. They are gaining better health and resistance to injury also! You can’t beat that!

We have been teaching our friends about the advantages of supplementing while on your weight loss journey. So many of our friends have taken these videos and articles seriously and have begun applying what they learned. The result is our friends are losing weight steadily! One couple started in January and they have lost a total of 44 pounds together. They just had a new baby, so they did not add exercise to their regimen yet. All their friends are asking them what they are doing and they are teaching them about the benefits of a good healthy diet and then adding in supplementing for an advantage. So many struggle with weight loss. To gain control of this part of our lives, we Dr. Bobbie Whitacre: Healthy Diet Weight-Loss Tips, Tools and Guides.try to establish disciplined habits in eating a healthier diet and exercising. I personally always look for ways to make this an easier task and ways to motivate myself to get a better result. One herbal product that I have come across that is very helpful in this is Rhodiola rosea. It is a great weight loss supplement or all natural “diet pill” to help you lose weight for several reasons that we will discuss here.

First, what is rhodiola and where does it come from? It is an herb that comes from the polar Arctic regions of Eastern Siberia. Historically, it was highly valued by traditional Arctic tribes as a strengthening tonic to increase physical and mental stamina. This is why traditionally it has been used by Russian athletes. Also, it has been prized for its ability to help the body adapt to stress. It supports the nervous system, and helps with mental focus as it increases the blood supply to the brain. It supports the immune system and is known to improve endurance and physical performance. This herb has many benefits to it, but the main focus of this article is to outline its benefits in weight loss.

One of the biggest hurdles of weight loss is stored fat or adipose tissue. It usually shows up around the waist, hips, and buttocks. Once fat is stored in this tissue, it is hard to get rid of. That's why some people just can't seem to get rid of certain fatty spots, including "love handles". The body does possess an enzyme called hormone-sensitive lipase that is capable of breaking down fat stored in adipose tissue, but this enzyme is not especially active. This is where rhodiola rosea comes in. Extracts of rhodiola rosea have the capacity to activate hormone-sensitive lipase, thus increasing the breakdown of fat stored in adipose tissue. Rosavin is one of the active ingredients in rhodiola that specifically contributes to fat breakdown. It does this by activating hormone-sensitive lipase, thus increasing the breakdown of fat stored in adipose tissue. The broken down stored fat is then released in the bloodstream, which is why it is a good idea to exercise in addition to taking the supplement.

We all know that exercise is good for us in general and we know that exercise will help us to lose weight, if we do it properly. Rigorous work schedules and life responsibilities leave a person tired and fatigued, so they do not exercise. Also, fatigue is known to cause us to make poor food decisions. When we are tired, we tend to eat what is readily available like fast food instead of cooking a healthy meal. Rhodiola can be a great help in this, as it gives you more energy to work out and has been shown to increase your productivity in workouts and naturally improves mental alertness and decreases fatigue, as it increases blood flow to the brain.

Here is some evidence that shows how Rhodiola can actually improve your exercise program, thus over time positively affect your weight loss. According to a double blind placebo-controlled randomized study conducted in Belgium involving 24 volunteers, published on Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab, patients were administered with either Rhodiola rosea intake 200-mg Rhodiola rosea extract containing 3% rosavin + 1% salidroside plus 500 mg starch or placebo (700 mg starch). Over a 4 week period, volunteers taking Rhodiola showed improvement in physical capacity, muscle strength, speed of limb movement, reaction time, and attention, compared to placebo group.

As we discussed, rhodiola has been shown to improve mental alertness and decrease fatigue. Research conducted at the Department of Neurology, Armenian State Medical University,Yerevan, the effect of repeated low-dose treatment of Rhodiola extract on fatigue during night duty among a group of 56 young, healthy physicians was studied. Total mental performance was evaluated measuring overall level of mental fatigue, complex perceptive and cognitive cerebral functions, such as associative thinking, short-term memory, calculation and ability of concentration, and speed of audio-visual perception. During a period of three weeks, volunteers taking Rhodiola extract were shown to have significant improvement in these tests compared to placebo group. These results suggest that Rhodiola can reduce general fatigue under certain stressful conditions. It helped night working physicians to have less fatigue and be more alert and it can help you. With your improved energy and alertness you can cook healthier meals and make better decisions, when it comes to food choices. Lastly, rhodiola can help us choose to eat a healthy diet and choose to exercise, as it helps improve our mental alertness and energy levels.

As you can see, we are promoting healthy weight loss and not a get slim quick scheme. Rhodiola helps us to make good choices, and over time those good choices will give us a good result in our weight loss efforts. In addition, with its ability to activate hormone sensitive molecules to break down stored fat, it is a real help in increasing our weight loss efforts. This is one weight loss tool we don’t want to be without.

CLA is a fat found in raw dairy and animal meat that has been grass fed, which is why our diets typically lack this fat.

The other helpful benefits of CLA are that it often helps with many of the symptoms found in thyroid patients. It helps to increase your metabolic rate, decreases abdominal fat, enhances muscle growth, lowers cholesterol and lowers insulin resistance -- reduces food-induced allergic reactions, and enhances the immune system.
