Spinal Check-Ups

Spinal Check UpsThis is the most important part of your care! I like to compare it to going to the dentist for 6 month check-ups. Statistically, those who go for their dental check-ups have less overall cavities, because the dentist and his assistants can warn you of problem areas, before they become a cavity and need the drill. The spinal check-up is very similar. During this visit, we are checking to see how well you have held your adjustment and we are looking for problem areas before they become worse. We will remind you of things you need to be working on, so that areas in your spine do not get re-injured. Statistically, patients do better when they come in for these visits, because we can see and feel areas that are swollen or in spasm before you may actually feel significant pain. Your spinal check-up is usually once a month, but there are exceptions to this rule.

Some patients have said, “I would like to come back when I feel like I need it”. This is just like going to the dentist when you feel you need it. By then, you are hurting, and more intense treatment is needed to repair the problem. Similarly, your body is quick to adapt to pain, and by the time you feel the pain, the area is usually in need of more serious repair, instead of a quick tune-up. In the bigger picture, the spinal check-up, like the dental check-up, ends up saving you time and money and pain. Our goal is to prevent you from re-entering the acute or corrective phase of care again. This part of your care, is really the most important, as this is one of the main tools to help keep you healthy and active!
